Free Gallery workshops with family membership

Children will get free entry to arty workshops as part of the Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery’s new family membership.

Family memberships will now include free entry for primary-school aged children to school holiday programs, which run four times per year.

Family membership to the Gallery costs $50 annually and also includes Gallery shop discounts, opening and event invitations, concession prices on many performances and reciprocal benefits at other public galleries.

Gallery Director Ian Tully said the Gallery wanted children to benefit from being members too.

“We want our youngest supporters to have some meaningful benefits from being Gallery members. Our school holiday program includes workshops with Gallery staff, local artists and sometimes visiting artists too,” he said.

“They are a great way for children to learn new artistic skills – often skills they might not learn anywhere else locally.”

New family memberships will take effect immediately and will be valid until 30 June 2019, which means children can get involved in the upcoming Easter school holiday program for free.

These school holiday workshops are inspired by the current Mallee Routes and Mallee Birds exhibitions, and include painting, collage, sculpture and building bird mobiles.

Mr Tully said Gallery members – including individual and corporate members – provided critical support to the Gallery.

“Our members provide great financial support through their annual memberships, but also make a great general supporter base of people who are interested in the Gallery, its exhibitions, performances and workshops,” he said.

To sign up, contact the Gallery on 5036 2430, email artgal@swanhill.vic.gov.au or call into the Gallery, on Monash Drive near Spoons Riverside.
